Laura Gutiérrez

Laura G. Gutiérrez is a scholar, curator, and educator based in Austin, Texas. She is Associate Professor of Latinx and Mexican Performance and Visual Studies in the Department of Mexican American and Latina/o Studies at the University of Texas at Austin, where she also serves as Associate Dean for Community Engagement and Public Practice in the College of Fine Arts. She has received support from the Getty Research Institute and UT’s Provost Author’s Fellows program for her forthcoming book, Binding Intimacies in Contemporary Queer Latinx Aesthetics. She is the author of Performing Mexicanidad: Vendidas y Cabareteras on the Transnational Stage and has published widely on performance, visual art, film, and video art. Gutiérrez is the Artistic Director of OUTsider (Austin, TX), where she programs the annual queer and transmedia festival.
