Barry Stone

Barry Stone is a multidisciplinary artist working at the intersections of sound and images. Stone began his career in 1990s in the influential post-rock band johnboy which recorded for Trance Syndicate and was reviewed in Magnet, Trouser Press, the Austin Chronicle, and Maximum Rock and Roll among other publications. Stone founded Mountains in Stars in Brooklyn in the early 2000’s and was reviewed by TimeOut NY. Stone is also the founder of Porch Swing Orchestra. PSO has been featured in Glasstire, invited to perform in the James Turrell Skyspace as a part of UT Landmark’s Songs in the Skyspace program, and has curated a series of performances and presentations at Co-Lab Projects in Austin, Texas. 

Stone’s artworks are represented by Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery in New York and Gaa Gallery in Cologne, Germany. He is a Professor of Photography at Texas State University. His work has been nationally and internationally exhibited most recently at Pinakothek der-Moderne in Munich, The Center for Art and Media, (ZKM) in Karlsruhe, Germany, The Lianzhou Photography Festival in China, and with Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery in New York City. His work is represented in collections including the Cleveland Clinic, Fidelity Mutual Corporation Collection, and the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. His work has been reviewed in publications including Artforum, Artlies, Artnet, Washington City Paper, The New York Sun, TimeOut New York, and the New York Times.
