Selina Thompson

Selina Thompson is an award-winning artist based in Leeds who has worked across the UK and internationally since 2012. Her work is interdisciplinary, urgent, playful and intimate – focussed on the politics of identity and how this defines our bodies, lives and environments.

She’s made work for pubs, hairdressers, shopping centres, toilets, galleries and theatres – in the UK this includes the National Theatre Studio, The Royal Court, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the British Council Showcase.

In 2016, supported by MAYK, Yorkshire Festival, Arts Council England and 200 indiegogo supporters, Selina retraced the Transatlantic Slave Triangle by cargo ship and madesalt. . Following a six-week attachment at the National Theatre Studio, salt. has been presented to sell out audiences at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival receiving The Stage Edinburgh Award, The Total Theatre Award for Experimentation, Innovation and Playing with Form and the inaugural Filipa Brangaca Award for Best Female Solo Performance. salt. will continue to tour internationally throughout 2018-19 with performances secured in Australia, Brazil, Canada, the USA and across Europe.

Selina has a broad national and burgeoning international profile, with work reviewed and writing featured in international publications. With social engagement at it’s core, her portfolio of work is as strong as it is distinctive; spanning live work, installation, durational performance, intervention, writing, and visual art.
