The Education Team, The Blanton Museum of Art

The education team at the Blanton Museum of Art facilitates connections between works of art and museum visitors. The full-time staff of seven serves diverse audiences by designing gallery experiences that support slow looking, personal connections, and creative responses among visitors of all ages.

The team’s educators activate works of art to support social and emotional learning and introduce school children to ways of seeing, thinking, and talking about art. They also develop customized curriculum-based gallery lessons to support university courses from all disciplines, including philosophy, sociology, and biology. Throughout the year, the education team produces music performances, film series, and lectures to extend conversations and build community. The team was recently profiled by the New York Times for its innovative approach to collaborating with physicians and medical students to develop observation skills, empathetic communication, and mindful practices.

The education team serves 12,000 university students, 13,000 K-12 students, and 15,000 visitors through adult and family programs, each year. The team works with a wide range of community partners including the Anti-Defamation League, Dell Medical School, Art From the Streets, and SXSW Music.
