All The Sex I’ve Ever Had

Mammalian Diving Reflex/Darren O’Donnell

A group of Austin’s over-65s draw on all their wisdom and experience to share true stories of their romantic and sex lives. In this taboo-busting tell-all, the spotlight is at last shone on a part of the population too often rendered invisible, with a show that has touched and tickled audiences all the way from Portland to Prague, Scotland to Singapore. Lovingly crafted by the team behind Haircuts by Children (2011) and starring a cast of up-for-it local seniors, All The Sex I’ve Ever Had is a tender encounter with real people.

From Fusebox In 2005 Darren O’Donnell was invited to the picturesque city of Oldenburg, Germany, to create a site-specific performance. Seeking inspiration, he went on a walk and the first thing he noticed was elderly women nimbly zipping around the town on bicycles. This image shattered his preconceptions of the activities of older women, and older folks in general, and this got him thinking. The resulting performance became All the Sex I’ve Ever Had, a performance project created in collaboration with local seniors, for which they share stories and wisdom about their lifetimes of sexual experiences; romances; and self-discoveries. Weaving together multiple decades, this one-of-a-kind party and performance enables the audience to time travel down memory lane as well as reveal a broader social history. As Aaliyah said, “Age ain’t nothing but a number.”
