BAT/MAN

BAT/MAN is an experimental musical work for an ensemble of bats and humans. Performed near the Mexican Free-Tailed Bat colony at Congress Bridge, the project will pitch-shift bat calls in real time so they are discernible to the human ear, while the roving audience can accompany the calls with echolocation devices, accompanied by conch shell ensemble, a megaphone choir, and a funnel horn band.

Echolocation devices will be handmade by participants in a series of community workshops leading up to the event on Wednesday 6th and Friday 8th from 6:30 to 8:30 at Anthropos Arts. The workshops will provide an opportunity for students from Austin Soundwaves and East Austin College prep to learn about the Mexican Free-Tailed Bat, explore live audio manipulation, and the musical potential of circuit manipulation.
