Boner Killer

Erin Markey

Erin Markey has “laser-beam eyes, a hair-raising singing voice, and an intense, almost predatory sexuality” (The New Yorker). She’s a “magnetic diva” (New York Times). She’s one of Brooklyn’s 50 Funniest People (Brooklyn Magazine). And she wants to tell you some stories.

Comprised of her signature story-driven stand-up and scored by sensual homemade pop, Erin Markey’s Boner Killer is an intimate musical conversation between what Markey thinks she can’t have and how she’d have it if she could. Driven by Whitney Houston’s lesbian mythologies, Europe™, and a Pretty Woman accident, Markey and bandmate Emily Bate sacrifice their lives to transform personal humiliations into naked feminist hope.

From Fusebox “Performance artist,” “comedian,” “actor,” and “singer” just can’t capture the magic that is Erin Markey. She’s a performance unicorn, taking us on a slip and slide as she transforms unlikely narratives and startling insights into catchy pop songs and comedic provocations. Whether she’s telling you about doing sex work on Craigslist to pay for her backpacking trip around the world or crooning about a Michigan girl’s love for her boat that is also a horse (no, really, a boat that is also a horse: check out her show A Ride on the Irish Cream), Markey makes us believe that if we fuse our real lives with our fantastical selves, all our dreams really can come true. Accompanied by the equally spell-binding vocalist and musician, Emily Bate, the pair’s magnetic charm, sincerity, and weirdness commands any room.
