NOPLACE

Matthew Steinke performs Noplace, an immersive multi-sensory musical score abstracted from the second half of Plato’s Allegory of the Cave. This time-based collage repurposes found recordings synced to robotic musical instruments, DIY projectors, MIDI-automated appliances, and tiny animatronic sculptures.

The soundtrack expands into three dimensional space employing acoustic devices that produce harmonic tones and percussive patterns in every direction. The visuals guide spectators with shifting shadows traveling the walls as if in a strange planetarium. The shadows of hidden objects are lost in translation as they reflect variations of variations that reveal a process of increasing misinformation.
