Phone Homer

Phone Homer is a techno-feminist remix of the ancient epic poem, “The Iliad.” Skype, fast food, torture, and illiterate dance phrases are all bedfellows on an Astroturf sheet of war, technology, and the western canon of literature. The frenetic narrative of the Trojan War unfolds as the homebound Clytemnestra has Sky- pe conversations with Agamemnon, Helen, Penelope, and Aegis- thus and surfs her custom-built, self-referential, and interactive world wide web searching for direction, meaning, transformative dance moves, and peace derived from materialism and food.

Michelle Ellsworth makes solo performance work, performable websites, drawings, and videos. She is a 2011 United States Art- ists Knight Fellow and a 2013 Creative Capital Grantee. Ellsworth’s work has been commissioned by the National Performance Net- work, Diverseworks, Dance Theater Workshop, On The Boards, and Danspace Project. She has performed and taught at Brown University, Columbia College, Naropa University, The University of Costa Rica, and in Ireland. Her drawings and spreadsheets have been published in CHAIN and her screen dances have been seen around Europe and throughout the U.S. The New York Times has described Ellsworth’s solo work as “virtuosic,” and “completely winning.” Ellsworth is currently working on a 7-inch recording with drummer Sean Meehan and is an Associate Professor in Dance at University of Colorado at Boulder.
