Neo-neon uses a maximized pop-up aesthetic to transform Austin Saengerrunde Halle into Al Volta’s Midnight Bar for the 2017 Fusebox Festival, providing a shifting backdrop that morphs nightly to accommodate a wildly diverse program of performance, party, and lounge.
Borrowing visual motifs from bar culture and spatial strategies from the theatre, Neo-neon liberates neon from the confines of the 2D sign and falls hard for the curves of tufted upholstery. Employing alternative materials and fabrication strategies, the project applies an immersive layer throughout the eclectic venue that prompts both performers and visitors to engage in a collective spirit of play.
