THE LANGUAGE OF CHANCE WORKSHOP (All ages)

MARIA CHÁVEZ

“When I am painting, I’m not aware of what I’m doing. It’s only after a sort of get acquainted period that I see what I have been about. I have no fears about making changes, destroying the image, etc., because the painting has a life of its own.” – Jackson Pollock

The Language of Chance workshop with sound artist and abstract turntablist Maria Chavez focuses on the values and lessons derived from chance encounters, accidents, and improvisation in her art practice.

Using her book, Of Technique: Chance Procedures on Turntable as the focal point, Chavez invites students to discuss serendipity, and accidents while learning the various turntablism techniques she has developed over the past decade.

Please note this workshop has limited availability and is offered by Co-Lab Projects at $30 per participant to cover workshop expenses.

Other Maria Chávez events: String Room (Installation) Thursday – Saturday, 12-6pm – DEMO Gallery Solo Turntable Performance: Wed April 12, 8pm – DEMO Gallery DJ Set @ Al Volta’s: Friday April 14, 1am (Sat)
